Top 5 Space Agencies of the World

Image
The space is a vast ocean of knowledge and mysteries. The various treasures hidden in the cosmos have always been cynosure for the scientists of the world. The astronomers around the world are always devising new methods and machinery to master the outer space and study the formation of the universe. This has lead to a race of explorations among the countries and their different space research agencies have pulled up their socks to be on the top. So here is the list of the leading space agencies of the world (in no specific order) according to Forbes:- Roscosmos- The Russian space agency, previously known as the Soviet Space Program, is the oldest space agency. The Russian space agency was set up in 1930. The Soviet space program worked well and good till 1990 but was shut down in 1991. This was replaced by the Roscosmos Space Corporation, the state space agency of Russia. The Soviet space program had paved the way for space explorations. They were the first one to send a ma...

Is Kepler/K2 Mission coming to an End?

Image
Kepler Space Observatory src: nasa The Kepler mission is a space observatory aimed at finding Earth-like planets in our Milky Way galaxy. The Kepler spacecraft was launched on 7 March,2009. It was estimated to have a lifetime of about 3.5 years but the masters in engineering have made the spacecraft complete 9 successful years. Johannes Kepler  src: wiki The Kepler mission was named after the astronomer Johannes Kepler . The Kepler has been a successful mission in the field of astronomy and has helped man achieve greater heights in the universe. The Kepler space observatory has helped discover various new planets in our own galaxy which lie in and near the habitable zone orbiting Sun-like stars. The space observatory has discovered about 2342 planets as of March, 2018 and is still searching for more. The life of Kepler space observatory has rather been a tough one. The observatory worked well and good and to the expectations of the scientists till 2013, when one ...

Parker Solar Probe, NASA's Ambitious Drive to the Sun

Image
The Sun, a source of light and energy for the Milky Way galaxy, is the primal reason for the existence of life on Earth. Besides this the Sun also has some mysteries inside it which have remained hidden as of now. But it looks like the scientists are determined to explore every possible nook and corner of the universe and thus make the human race less dependent on variations occurring in the nature. NASA's Parker Solar Probe is an active and suitable example for this. Parker Solar Probe   src: nasa NASA, the American space agency, has recently launched a solar probe named Parker Solar Probe with an aim to disclose the reason behind the abnormal behaviour of the Sun and its surroundings. The solar probe was launched on 12 August,2018 equipped with various high-end electronics to push the limits of the humans in space. The solar probe will be the first ever spacecraft to reach a distance of 3.8 million miles from the Sun. Objective of the Mission - Corona  sr...

Black Hole, An Unsolved Mystery

Image
Representative Image Credits- Bronzwaer/Davelaar/Moscibrodzka/Falcke/Radboud University  src: eso The universe is a realm of various galaxies, concealing in it the unsolved mysteries of its creation and evolution of life. One among them is the Black Hole . According to scientists a black hole, as the name suggests, is a cavity in space which sucks in all matter from the surrounding and condenses it at its center. It is one of the most controversial and highly researched mystery that the Universe has. What is a Black Hole ? A Black Hole, as stated above, is the giant hungry monster which keeps on sucking matter from the surrounding to satiate its hunger. A black hole has a very strong gravitational pull which is capable of tearing matter apart. The gravitational pull is so strong that no matter, not even light, can escape the boundaries of the black hole. The scientists have not been able to practically see a black hole due to lack of a proper telescope(diameter that of t...

PSLV, The Backbone of India's Space Aspirations

Image
PSLV rocket (src:ISRO) After being long in the shackles of British Empire, when India restored freedom it had no idea as to how their dreams for having satellites of their own would be fulfilled. Earlier India took the help of the Russian Space Agency(Roscosmos) for starting its space related missions. India's first satellite Aryabhata was actually launched by Russia's Soyuz. But as the days passed by India felt the need of an indigenously developed launch vehicle. This requirement was completed by the introduction of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle(PSLV) in 1993. Journey of PSLV- The PSLV was introduced in 1993 and had its first launch in September,1993. The first launch was successful in its initial stages but failed in the later ones. The first and the second stage performed as expected but the third stage encountered a problem of attitude control. This prevented the establishment of the satellite in the orbit and the mission failed. An year later, after the...

ESO proves Einstein's Theory Right

Image
@ ESO /M. Kornmesser The European Southern Observatory(ESO) has been able to prove the correctness of the Einstein's theory. This has become possible due to the observations made on a Supermassive Black Hole,4 million times the mass of Sun. A group of scientists consisting of collaborators from Paris Obseravtory-PSL, the Universite Grenoble Alpes, the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, the Portugese CENTRA,CNRS and the ESO lead by Reinhard Genzel from Max Planck Institute had a close watch on a star named S2. This star was orbiting a supermassive black hole present in the center of our own, Milky Way Galaxy. The star S2 was being observed for a much long time ,about 26 years , during its journey. The scientists were waiting for the star to pass by the giant black hole and making preparations from the beginning of the 2018. Proof of Einstein's Theory of Relativity- Path of S2 around the Black Hole (src: @ESO ) According to the Einstein's Relativity ...

Once in a century Blood Moon to be held today

Image
With lunar eclipse occurring today, the silvery moon will change its colour and turn blood red. This type of lunar eclipse occurs once in a century and is expected to occur next in 2099. This lunar eclipse will last for about 4 hours after which the moon will return back to its shiny silvery colour. This eclipse would be totally visible in major parts of Asia and Africa and partially visible in some parts of North America, South America and Australia. At 1:14 p.m. EDT, a #LunarEclipse started to become visible to much of Earth's population except North & Central America. Bad weather or not located in the right place to see it? No worries! Watch our live stream online starting at 2:15pm.
